Our goal is to provide services locally wherever possible which means close collaboration with the three rural hospitals Oamaru, Dunstan, and Balclutha. 

The surgical services are committed to being part of a teaching hospital and centre of learning with close links established with Dunedin Medical School, Otago University, and Otago Polytechnic. 

Active research programs augment the quality of service delivery.  Clinical audit is a key component of all services.

There are ten operating theatres at Dunedin Hospital providing elective procedures and 24-hour emergency acute services.
