The University of Otago and Otago DHB have a mutually dependent relationship, working together to provide a teaching hospital producing clinical graduates for the country, and services for the people of Otago and Southland.

The sharing of staff between the Otago DHB and the University Of Otago Division Of Health Sciences provides economies of scale and allows both organisations to deliver high quality services, teaching and research. 

The Otago DHB remains committed to fostering the education of and research for health professionals through its services directly and through its very close association with the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic.
