The Otago district is the second largest region in New Zealand (32,000 sq km or 12% of New Zealand's land area).  As shown on the map below, the Otago DHB covers Clutha, Central Otago, Waitaki District, the Wanaka ward of Queenstown-Lakes District, and Dunedin City.

The Otago DHB serves 181,500 people.  Almost 70% live in Dunedin City.   Otago is more rural than the average DHB, with 35% of the population living in towns of fewer than 30,000 people, compared to 31% nationally.
