The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is part of the Child Health Service and is located on the 5th floor of the Ward Block at Dunedin Hospital and is one of the six tertiary level service centres within New Zealand.
It is resourced for five level three cots and eleven level two cots, providing individualised family centred care and support for babies born prematurely and for newborn babies to three months of age who require intensive care.
The service is provided by two Neonatologists supported by General Paediatricians, Registrars, Senior House Officers and experienced nurses with post-graduate training in NICU care.
