The Children's Outpatient Department is located on the ground floor of the Children's Pavilion accessed via the "yellow tunnel" from Gt. King St.  The department provides outpatient services for Otago and additional outreach clinics in several rural areas.

  • Central Otago  - Dunstan Hospital, Clyde
  • North Otago  - Oamaru Hospital, Oamaru
  • South Otago  - Clutha Health First, Balclutha

Both generalist and specialist clinics are provided with an increasing number of visiting specialists from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to Dunedin.  Referrals are triaged by a Paediatrician and appointments scheduled for First Specialist Assessments (FSA) according to urgency.  All children are seen within six months of referral.

Other health services provided by the outpatient service include:

  • Nursing support
  • Clinical psychology
  • Social work
  • Medical management of sexual abuse
  • Child protection
  • Palliative care/chronic illness outreach
  • Chemotherapy

The Outpatient Department is also the facility provider for other ODHB service providers including Dietitian, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Asthma and Diabetes Educators and Vision/ Hearing Technician
