In early 2009 we finalised a HEHA Plan specifically for Otago. This outlines what we are planning to do to help improve nutrition and increase physical activity in our communities up until 2010. You can read the plan here, along with quarterly updates on progress against our actions.

Otago HEHA Plan Final (459 KB) - Outcomes Tables (June 2009, 77 KB)

Healthy Eating Healthy Action is a priority area in the Otago District Health Board 2009/10 District Annual Plan under Long-Term Conditions and Chronic Disease. To see how HEHA fits in, view the 2009/10 DAP.

Promoting HEHA in Otago

We have employed a part-time communications consultant to help us promote all the good work that organisations are doing to push the HEHA key messages.  Some key actions (or bright ideas) for promoting HEHA until July 2010 are detailed in our 2009-10 HEHA Communications Plan.

If you would like to see a copy of the Communications Plan please email rosie.gordon@osdhbs.govt.nz

HEHA Newsletter

Our consultant is also responsible for re-establishing a regular HEHA newsletter - you'll notice there hasn't been a newsletter for over a year:

October 2007   December 2007   February 2008   April 2008   June 2008   August 2008

In December 2009 we re-launched the Otago HEHA newsletter - it looks different, and it will now be produced quarterly. Click on the links below to view the newsletter:

HEHA Community Fund

Do you have an idea for a healthy eating healthy action project in your community? This fund has been established to support the development of projects that are designed to empower local communities to take action to improve their health and well-being through creating environments that promote healthy eating and/or increased physical activity.

What could be funded?

  • A community orchard
  • Hands-on healthy cooking classes
  • Projects or initiatives that are community-led and promote healthy eating and physical activity
  • Applications for Round 1 have now closed.  Information on what has been funded will be made available on this page in February.
