HEHA - Schools and Early Childhood Education Services (ECE Services)

Children and young people are a priority group for HEHA - acknowledging the important links between food, health and learning.

The food and nutrition environment at schools and ECE Services is a very important one, especially since children often consume at least a third of their daily intake there.

Making healthy foods and drinks readily available within the education environment will encourage students to make healthy choices.

How to access information and support:

  • Access resources which have been developed for schools and ECCs via: www.minedu.govt.nz/PromotingHealthyLifestyles
  • Register for the Heart Foundation's Healthy Heart Awards for schools or early childhood centres, and check out the fun DigiVillage at www.heartfoundation.org.nz, in their Education section.
  • Learn more about the Food and Beverage Classification System
  • Download Nutrition Tips and recipes for your newsletter from www.heha.org.nz
  • Find teaching resources, recipes and information at www.5aday.co.nz and www.vegetables.co.nz
  • Access a PDF of the Ministry of Education Focus on Food  / Te Arotahi ki te kai: Thinking critically about food and nutrition curriculum resource. This is a great new resource for teachers to encourage students to think critically about food and what influences their food choices.
